West 1 formely Penwith District Council
Air quality monitoring has been ongoing in Penzance since the beginning of 2003.
More recently continuous monitors have been installed in Albert Street, measuring traffic related nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and particulate matter (PM10), and at Chyandour Road measuring sulphur dioxide (SO2) as a proxy for air pollution from the train station.
At present pollutant concentrations in Penzance town centre and on Chyandour Road do not exceed the Governments NAQS objectives.
NO2 concentrations have also been monitored in St Ives, Hayle and Crowlas.
